Since my last update, I watched the final films left on the list.
On a family recommendation, this replaced Spirited Away as the list’s anime film. I read the Earthsea Quartet by Ursula LeGuin when I was younger and enjoyed it. The film was different to my memory of the books, partly because it was an anime. I’ve seen other anime movies and a tv series or two.
This movie (and another unrelated one) replaced the two Charlie Chaplin movies on the films list. I’d seen a few of his skits many years ago, and this movie was mentioned during my Modern History classes in high school. I read somewhere that Chaplin resisted doing talking movies, but then said so much that he was banned from the United States. The movie was more amusing and clever than I expected, and I enjoyed watching most of it.
So that’s this list item done! Some of the movies were a bit hard to watch and I think my perception suffered because of the age of the movies. However, a few of the movies were very good, and I understand many more cultural references than before.
